Hi Gray,
I hope jitsi will work out fine this time.
Can I do anything from my end in order to present “properly” ?

Hi Martin,

Jitsi uses a standard WebRTC communication as implemented by the browser. Common problems:
- Browser extensions or privacy-focused VPNs are known to with WebRTC. It is (was) possible to make your browser to disclose your real IP address when behind a VPN and many VPN tools and browser extensions moved to block WebRTC in some way. Solution: disable
WebRTC privacy enhancements (commonly labelled “WebRTC leak") in your VPN and browser extensions. If you don’t know how to find those settings, connect using a private browser tab with no extensions activated and without VPN.
- Corporate firewalls messing with WebRTC. Nothing we can do about that, talk to your IT and ask them to stop doing that or connect without corp VPN (if allowed). Alternatively, use non-corporate device to connect.
- Safari has a lousy (not fully conformant) WebRTC implementation. Use Safari at your own risk. Though the future version of it is promising to fix the most critical issues: https://infrequently.org/2023/02/safari-16-4-is-an-admission/
- Firefox works OK but the encoding is not as performant as on Chromium-based browsers. If you have extreme perf problems, consider using Chrome/Edge/Brave/etc instead of Firefox for Jitsi. Since I upgraded from a 2015 Macbook Pro to a 2022 Macbook Air
M2, I haven’t had this problem.
Other systems like Google Meet work around WebRTC problems by including some workaround code which Jitsi refuses to add, insisting instead that WebRTC implementation should be rid of problems and IT depts should stop blocking WebRTC.
We can use another system if too many corp users experience Jitsi issues they can’t fix.
–Andrew.
