New OASIS Board Member Spotlight Series

Mary Beth Minto

Dear OASIS members,
We are pleased to kick off a new Board Member Spotlight Series to recognize the achievements of our accomplished Directors. Each month, we'll feature a different Board member. Through a Q&A style interview, we'll share more about their contributions to the OASIS community, thoughts for the future of the organization, and more.

This month, for our first interview of the series, we caught up with Gershon Janssen, OASIS Board Chair and Director of Solutions Architecture at Reideate. Gershon talks about his path to the OASIS board, his extensive background in standards development, and why he's passionate about OASIS' mission. Read our spotlight on Gershon here.

Please stay tuned next month for our interview with Jim Cabral. We'll share it on our News & Blogs page and the OASIS social media channels (LinkedInTwitter, and Facebook).

Thank you,
Mary Beth

OASIS Board of Directors approves a Code of Conduct

Chet Ensign

OASIS members and Open Project participants,

At its meeting on October 13 and 14 the OASIS Board of Directors approved a Code of Conduct to apply to all activities of the consortium.

The purpose of the Code of Conduct is to document the values we stand for and the standards of professional conduct we expect from one another. The process document gives instructions for reporting an incident and describes the steps we will take in response.

The code is published on the OASIS Policies & Guidelines page and can be found at https://www.oasis-open.org/policies-guidelines/oasis-participants-code-of-conduct/. A description of the reporting and response process is also available at https://www.oasis-open.org/policies-guidelines/code-of-conduct-incident-reporting-and-response-process/.

This code was adapted from the widely-used Contributor Covenant, version 2.1, available at https://www.contributor-covenant.org/version/2/1/code_of_conduct.html

Projects that have already adopted a Code of Conduct can continue working under their version so long as nothing in it conflicts with or contradicts the OASIS version.

The Board invites feedback from members and project participants on these documents. Feedback can be provided by sending email to oasis-board-comment@.... Suggestions for improvements will be brought to the Board's Governance committee or Process committee for consideration.

As always, thanks for all the work you do at OASIS and feel free to contact me with any questions.

OASIS takes leadership role in ESG standards and open source development

Mary Beth Minto

Logo

Harm Jan van Burg

Congratulations to Harm Jan van Burg, Senior Policy Advisor, International Standards at OASIS Open, on his election as Vice Chair of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE)’s Team of Specialists on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Traceability of Sustainable Value Chains in the Circular Economy.

The Team of Specialists supports ESG traceability systems for more responsible and sustainable consumption and production patterns (United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 12). ESG traceability can allow the global value chain to be managed more sustainably. Technology and information exchange standards play a leading role in supporting traceability in a wide range of sectors, including agri-food, fishery, garment and footwear, minerals, transport and e-waste management.

Informed decisions for sustainable production and consumption can lead to increased cooperation between countries and more successful climate change policies and actions. Globally-aligned standards can measure targets and help transform climate commitments into action.

Thank you, Harm Jan, for representing OASIS and being a strong advocate for standards that contribute to the fight against climate change!

2023 OASIS Sponsor dues announced

Scott McGrath

OASIS Members,

Your dues and sponsorship contributions provide the vital support of all OASIS staff and technical operations that make all current collaboration possible.  You also help fund the reliable storage and delivery of all OASIS Specifications and Standards created over the years.

With these responsibilities in mind, The OASIS board of Directors has approved a dues increase for 2023 - effective for all new and renewing memberships and sponsorships  effective 1 January 2023.  The increase intends to reflect the current inflationary costs on our expenses.  The current and upcoming dues are posted at TC Participation Dues and OP Sponsor Dues

Your advance renewal messages and invoicing will reflect the appropriate fee for your member category.  Please plan accordingly.

Thank you as always for your support.  Your particpation and support are important as we forward the mission of the consortium and advance the work of the TCs and OPs that are important to you.

Please feel free to reach out if we can help you understand your new dues level  and benefits or help with paperwork.  Your Member Service support team is happy to help!  member-services@...

Open Standards Cup Finalists: Baseline and OCA

Carol Geyer

OASIS is pleased to announce that two Open Projects have been named as Finalists for the 2020 Open Standards Cup in the New Initiatives category.

The Baseline Protocol, part of the Ethereum OASIS Open Project, combines advances in cryptography, messaging, and blockchain to deliver secure and private business processes at low cost via the public Ethereum Mainnet.

The Open Cybersecurity Alliance (OCA) supports an open source ecosystem where cybersecurity products can interoperate without one-off integrations by using commonly developed code, tooling, and standards.

This year's Cup winner will be announced at the virtual OASIS Open Awards Ceremony on 8 Dec 2020. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Updates to the OASIS Open Project Rules approved by the Board of Directors

Chet Ensign

Participants in OASIS Technical Committees and Open Projects,

At its meeting on 06 March 2020, the OASIS Board of Directors approved a set of edits to the OASIS Open Project Rules (https://www.oasis-open.org/policies-guidelines/open-projects-process).

The changes approved constitute clarifications of the text and do not affect the substance of the rules. You need not change how you are currently working.

Broadly, the changes:

- Clarify when an Entity Contributor License Agreement (ECLA) is required;

- Clarify that an entity may sponsor an Open Project without being required to appoint a representative to the Project Governing board and sign an ECLA;

- Clarify when notice must be given to an Open Project's participants before a required approval action can be taken;

- Clarify that ECLAs are signed for specific Open Projects; and

- Add CC-0 to the list of Applicable Licenses.

The attached redlined file shows these changes in detail.

You can find the new rules posted on the OASIS Policies page (https://www.oasis-open.org/policies-guidelines/). The changes are effective immediately.

Feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

Best regards,

/chet
